Personnel of the Gomoa District Environmental Health, on Friday met with some iced water sellers at Apam on how best the sellers could disposed of their waste without causing any environmental hazard.
It was agreed at the meeting that the sellers should obtain big polythene bags or containers for the disposal of plastic waste materials to avoid the spread of the waste on the streets.
Addressing them later, the District Environmental Health Officer, Mr R K Numond, appealed to food sellers in the District to register and obtain licenses before selling to the public.
He said anyone who handled any consumable items, either food or water, must be medically examined to ensure that one was free from any infectious diseases, adding that those who flouted the law would be prosecuted.
"Ghana is 50 years old and this must reflect in our ways of life", Mr Numond said.
The Principal Environmental Officer, Mr S K Yahanz told the sellers that certificates issued to them after screening would not be transferable.
He expressed concern about how filth was engulfing some towns in the District and appealed to the people to help bring the situation under control.
