The Ghana Oil Company Limited, has presented internationally-verified and standard Visugauges (measuring cans) and accessories to the Ghana Standards Authority, GSA.

The equipment, valued at over GH¢572,000 was presented to the authority by GOIL’s Group Chief Executive and Managing Director, Kwame Osei-Prempeh at a short ceremony in Accra.

 The visugauges which were in 20, 10 and 5-Litre capacity cans are equipped with glass measuring tubes, padlocks and aluminium cases to ensure their durability. The equipment are to help strengthen the capacity of the GSA to check accuracy of fuel delivery at fuel service stations. 

It will specifically enable the GSA execute its mandate effectively by reaching out to all stations country-wide including the newly-created regions. The last time the authority purchased these equipment was 28 years ago.

Making the presentation, Kwame Osei-Prempeh said, the donation followed appeals for assistance by the Ghana Standards Authority which had few of the equipment across the country. 

The equipment, he noted, will assist the GSA to check accuracy of fuel delivery at service stations. “We believe this will in the long run assure consumers of value for money for the products they buy”, he added.

Mr. Osei Prempeh was undaunted the equipment will be used to check OMCs including GOIL, assuring consumers the company will continue to co-operate with all regulatory agencies including the Ghana Standards Authority to ensure the interest of consumers are always protected.

Receiving the equipment and accessories, the Director General of the Ghana Standard Authority, Prof. Alex Dodoo expressed gratitude to GOIL, and confirmed that by the gesture, GOIL was doubling the facilities and capacity of the authority in executing its mandate of measuring and verifying pumps for quantity and quality of fuel products countrywide.

He assured GOIL and the public that the equipment would be put to good use and encouraged other OMCs to emulate GOIL’s example.

There were solidarity and messages of appreciation from the CEO of OMCs, Kwaku Agyemang Duah and Duncan Amoah of COPEC.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were management of GOIL including the head of HSSE, Cyril Opon; Chief Finance Officer, Kwabena Adjei and Head of Corporate Affairs, Marcus Dake.
