Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has stated that his election as Speaker of the 8th Parliament is godsend.
One of the longest-serving MPs in the country from the Nadowli Kaleo constituency said God wants both sides of the political divide - the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) - to work together.
Speaking at the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council where he paid a courtesy to the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Bagbin said God wants the people to unite, agree to disagree in peace and harmonise to develop the nation.
Mr Bagbin had a rousing welcome in his home region of the Upper West Region where he was mobbed by the people, notable among them were supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Immediately he touched down from the Ghana Air Force plane at the Wa airport which is now closed to commercial flights, he rolled out of the airport and headed straight to Wanaa's palace.
The overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo, the Yerinaa, Alhaji Sungumo and representatives of the 12 recognised sects in Wa were happy to welcome him.
His speech in Waala was punctuated with shouts of number three from NDC supporters in reference to the tango he had in Parliament with his close friend and Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu over a week ago.
He then recounted his Tom Brown school days at Wa Secondary School over 40 years ago. He narrated how he became one of the pioneers of the school where he was also working as a part-time farm labourer at a cotton farm at Bamahu.
He told the people that the number 3 tag is not for him alone but for the people of the region where his strength comes from.
The Speaker later met Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Bin Hafiz Salih in his office at the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council.
Dr Salih on his part commended the Speaker for the feat achieved in politics stating he truly deserves it.
He called on the people to be united for the development of the region.
