Glo Mobile Ghana will officially launch its operations in the country on November 17, 2011.
It promises to provide an extensive 3G coverage, “a comprehensive suite of high quality and reliable voice and data services and very competitive rates that would change the telecommunications landscape in the country.”
An invitation letter signed by Glo’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mr George Andah, to some personalities said the Glo Mobile Ghana network would be supported and augmented by Glo 1, the high capacity state-of-the-art submarine cable commissioned in Ghana in 2009.
It said the Glo 1 cable is the first individually owned submarine cable in Africa and the only such facility connecting West Africa directly to the United Kingdom.
“The cable will guarantee access to ultra-fast and reliable internet connectivity and will be the driving force for the business community not only in Ghana but also in West Africa,” it assured.
The statement said besides benefiting all sectors of the economy due to the window of opportunity that the Glo 1 cable would offer, “it will also provide the platform for robust applications such as video conferencing, telemedicine, distance learning, and customised services such as data centres and wireless virtual network.”
Glo Mobile Ghana Limited is a subsidiary of Globacom Limited, an indigenous African telecommunications company.
Globacom acquired its operating licence for Ghana in 2008 and had in the past three years pursued a rigorous programme of developing a world-class telecommunications network.
