Ghana made a woeful start in Athletics at the 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with only one athlete making progress into the semi-finals.

Flings Owusu Agyapong placed fourth in the Women’s 100m race at the Hampdon Park Stadium in Glasgow. But it was good enough to push her through to the semi-finals.

The United States of America (USA) based athlete will be looking forward to pick a position in the finals in a bid to make a case for a medal.

However, Owusu Agyapong’s feat makes her the only Ghanaian athlete to make progress in the first day of the athletics competition.

Tim Abeyie made a time of 10.50secs in the Men’s 100-meters Heat Two to place third whilst Solomon Aful placed fifth in the same race, but their records were not good enough to push them to the next stage of the competition.

In the women’s 400m Heat Three, Vivian Mills made a time of 55.19sec, with her compatriot but both failed to make progress.
