An appeal has gone out to the government to consider offering workers some 'cola' to sustain them as they await the payment of the Single Spine Salary structure sometime later this year.
The 'cola' will help mitigate the rising cost of living which would be caused by rising prices resulting from he habit of traders who hate to hear of any increases in workers salaries.
The appeal was made by Mr. Felix Eddie Quansah, General Secretary of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAC), at the Volta Regional Delegates Conference at Hohoe.
He said traders would definitely hike the prices of their goods so the best way to help workers out was to give them something to live on while awaiting the salary scheme to be implemented.
At the conference, at which new regional executives were elected, he noted that though the new scheme was not an increase in emoluments to workers, traders will misunderstand it and will do everything to take advantage of it.
He hinted that the Judicial Service would soon launch a provident fund to boost workers' retirement benefits.
At the moment, he lamented, staff of the service were shying away from retirement due to the scanty take-home emolument after many years of work.
Mr. Francis Dimake, a registrar of the Hohoe Municipal Court, was elected the regional chairman of JUSSAC with Mr. Robet1 Fiadjoe as his vice.
The post of the regional secretary went to Mr. Leonard Agbobli whilst Mr. Richard Tordgro became his deputy.
The regional treasurer was Mr. George Bush Seddoh with Ms Brigdet Tsigbe and Mr. John Otoo as the executive members.
