An NGO, Give Me Hope Foundation, in collaboration with Alfie Design has organized a free sewing training for girls and women in some deprived communities.
Twenty women from Abossey Okai Zongo, Agbogboshie, Korle Gono, Kasoa, and Mallam were the first batch to start.
The founder of the Foundation, Wisdom Dordoe, said the programme was part of women empowerment adaptation measures to reduce poverty and promote quality livelihoods among the people, especially women.
He believes training the women would serve as an income generating venture to make money to enable them to take good care of their families.
“Reducing poverty among women requires a mix of pro-poor policies and strategies which target the informal sector and vulnerable groups such as the youth and women,” he said.
According to him, many other women will benefit from in the near future.
For her part, Dede Asary, the General Manager for Alfie Design said the company is a woman-focused one which is into manufacturing of apparel and training of women for free.
They believe in training vulnerable group of girls and women so they gain access to affordable informal training and entrepreneurial support services, which in the long term contributes to an enabling environment that promotes women enterprise.
The training takes three months after which the trainees are ready employment for them while they advance themselves.
Lauding the great work done by the Foundation, she said her company’s motivation to partner with them is the remarkable work they are doing in touching lives.
She is calling on institutions, philanthropist, donors, individuals to support the Give Me Hope Foundation to touch more lives.
Give Me Hope Foundation from its inception, has done numerous programmes and is doing a lot of work in the educational, health, employment as well as the social sector.
