Delegates to the Convention People's Party's (CPP) December 15th Special National Delegates Congress, have been called upon to renew the mandate of the incumbent national chairman, Dr Edmund N. Delle.
In a statement signed by Mr Emmanuel Okai, a CPP stalwart, on Tuesday on behalf the "Working Comrades of the CPP," an amalgamation of Nkrumaist group of Workers in Tema, the Working Comrades called on delegates to massively vote for Dr. Delle, to ensure continuity in the building of bridges between the CPP and other affiliates of the party.
"We are proud of the effort of this indefatigable chairman of the CPP, who through a dint of hard work has held the CPP, the party founded by Comrade Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a lover of labour and first president and champion of Ghana's independence, together through thick and thin and linking it to its traditional affiliates," the statement said.
It noted that at the time when everything was in disarray in the CPP to the point that its second Vice Chairman resigned and even joined another political party, Dr. Delle stood his grounds firmly and continuously built bridges between the mainstream of the party and disenchanted groups that had sprung up, calling for the vibrancy the CPP was known for.
"It takes vision, tenacity and Nkrumaist commitment to nationalism for such achievement, which has now made the CPP the byword in the current political activities of the nation."
The statement recalled the background job done by Comrade Dr. Edmund Delle in organizing the working comrades and the fact that he had on occasions reiterated the belief of the CPP in the working people of Ghana.
"It is in this light that we have decided to throw our weight behind Comrade Dr. Edmund Delle and is appealing to the delegates to be likewise in his bid to serve the CPP for a second term".
"We hope that his continuous leadership would galvanize the working people of Ghana into action for national development and progress when the CPP wins power in the 2008 elections".
