The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is embarking on a leadership training drive to improve the capacity of its District and Regional management teams.
Dr. Mohammed Bin Ibrahim, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, said the training aimed at enhancing the potency of the service in the pursuit of programmes for the achievement of health targets in the region.
He was speaking at the 2008 Ashanti Regional Performance Review of the GHS at Kumasi on Tuesday.
Dr Ibrahim said this year and the years ahead the GHS will deepen inter-sectoral collaboration, especially with District Assemblies in order to remain on course towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The goals include a two-thirds reduction in under-five mortality rate, a three-quarters reduction in maternal mortality, halting and reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS, as well as curbing the incidence of malaria.
Dr Ibrahim indicated that the construction of a regional hospital for Ashanti will help meet the healthcare needs of the expanding population whilst enabling the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to function effectively as a Teaching hospital.
Mr. Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, cautioned health workers to strive to abide by the code of ethics of their profession to help retain their image whilst retaining public confidence in them.
