The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Council, (Assin Kushea) Ehunabobrim Prah Agyemsaim VI at the Engineers Centre, Roman Ridge in Accra.
The signing of the MoU between GhIE and the Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Council, (Assin Kushea) is to compliment the efforts of Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensiam VI to the development of the community into a historical and eco-friendly tourist attraction in the central region.
In his welcome address, the Executive Director of GhIE, Ing. David Kwatia Nyante, said this partnership comes on the back of the Owirenkyi Traditional Council’s plan to seek for the support and partnership with organizations and Institutions to achieving their purpose. This paved way for GhIE to make the approach to offer its support and expertise in that regard.
The President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), Ing. Kwabena Bempong giving his remarks said: “GhIE is enthusiastic about partnering with the Owirenkyi Traditional Council to achieve shared vision for Kushea as it is responsible for promoting and advancing the training and practice of engineering for social good.”
He added that the institution is very much excited to providing its expertise and knowledge in ensuring that the vision of the community is achieved.
The GhIE, as part of the partnership, has envisioned to construct an Engineering Village (EV). This EV will prioritize the effective land utilization and incorporate sustainable design principles.
Ing. Bempong further added that it would serve as a model for future developments in the building, leaving a lasting impression on visitors. The partnership will ensure that the development meets the highest standard of sustainable innovation.
On his part, the Paramount Chief of Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Council, (Assin Kushea), Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI said, he is very excited that such partnership has been established to making the vision for his community come through.
Giving details of the Engineering Village, the Chairman of Land Acquisition and Development Committee, Ing. Michael Dedey said, the EV construction will have within it an Industrial park; office for the facility management team; a Conference facility; a Museum of engineering in Ghana; Eco Park and Recreational Centre, as well as a Hostel.
Others include; a Villa for the facility manager, an out-house for Resident handymen, a Dormitory block, a Restaurant, among others.
The Owirenkyi Traditional Council and GhIE are excited about the potential of the engineering village to promote sustainable tourism and community development. The EV will not only attract tourists but also create employment opportunities which will contribute to economic growth for the area.
Present at the short but impressive ceremony include: Ing. Ludwig Hesse, President-Elect of GhiE; Ing. Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann; and other Council members of GhIE.
