The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) has appointed Olympian Reks Brobby to the Technical Committee for the 2027 African Games set to take place in Egypt.
This nomination, which arose from the AUSC’s Ordinary Session in Algeria last month, aligns with the African Union’s statutes to incorporate sports experts, as outlined in Article 18F.
Mr Brobby’s selection follows Ghana’s successful hosting of the 2023 African Games, a milestone that has boosted opportunities for Ghanaians in sports leadership roles across the continent.
The newly formed Technical Committee for the African Games (TCAG) held its inaugural meeting on November 1.
A letter from Dr. Decius Chipande, AUSC Coordinator, detailed that Brobby’s nomination awaits ratification at a 2025 AU ministerial session.
Mr Brobby, a prominent figure in Ghanaian sports and an Adidas partner, served as Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Ghana’s LOC at both CAN 2008 and the 13th African Games.
The TCAG’s members also include:
• Dr. Decius Chipande, AUSC Coordinator
• Maj. Gen. Ahmed Nasser, AASC
• Ms. Angela Martins, Sports Division
• Sid Ahmed Selmi, AUSC Region 1
• Dr. Samuel Ogbondeminu, AUSC Region 2
• Mr. Zenon Kabamba, AUSC Region 3
• Mr. James Akama, AUSC Region 4
• Mr. Stanley Mutoya, AUSC Region 5
• Mrs. Penina Kabenge
