A Minister of State-designate for the Finance Ministry, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has said that the Akufo-Addo-led government is keen on reviving the economic crisis the country is facing.
According to him, government announced expenditure-reducing measures in the 2023 Budget, which is being implemented as part of efforts to restore the economy.
"Mr Chairman, we are not here because somebody has mismanaged the economy. We all know that even before Covid, our economy was on track, we were growing at an average of 6.00 per cent, inflation was low, interest rates were low, we were investing in education, energy, health and infrastructure.
"Therefore, the challenges we are facing as a country will not crush Ghana”, he said.
Speaking before the Appointment Committee of Parliament for vetting, the MP for Karaga Constituency asserted that Ghanaians have experienced some good times and benefitted under the Akufo-Addo government.
He explained that the country is in a bad season and that it is the responsibility of all Ghanaian citizens to help the government restore the economic woes that has befallen the country.
“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is providing that strong leadership with promises that require all Ghanaians to make sacrifices....because when we are in good times, we all benefit and when we are in bad times it should be our responsibility as a nation to come together and work to relieve the pain in our country", he said.
Dr Adam said he is optimistic that the economy will revive - and Ghanaians will soon experience the good leadership of the Akufo-Addo-led government.
"This economy will recover, I see light at the end of the tunnel and….Ghanaians will know that they have strong leadership.”
The Minister of state-designate of Finance, however, said he was inviting his colleagues on the other side (of the House) and all Ghanaians to support President Akufo-Addo to resolve the current economic challenges of the country.
