The outgoing Member of Parliament for Keta Constituency says the country's democracy is on the verge of being pushed into a coffin.
Speaking to Joynews, Monday, Mr Richard Quashigah was insistent that the Electoral Commission's verdict after 2020 general elections did not represent the will of the people.
"Democracy can't survive on the whims and caprices of unfairness. It is clear that even in the court of public opinion, this election was won by the NDC; both the Presidential and Parliamentary.
Mr Quashigah, dressed in a red and black outfit in Parliament, alluded to some conspiracy against Ghana's democracy designed to steal the verdict of the elections and rob the Ghanaian people of their democratic right.
"It is obvious that some people are trying very hard to push the democracy that all Ghanaians are enjoying into a coffin and nail it. The Electoral Commission was subjected to the manipulation of the Presidency," he said.
According to him, "those who are struggling hard to perpetuate such agenda benefited from the free, transparent atmosphere of democracy which enabled them to be in the coxswain."
Mr Quashigah also believes that it is unlawful for the EC to make several amendments to election results after a verdict has been announced. He further described the EC's amendment of some of the results as "abysmal behaviour" that "undermines the whole [electoral] process".
Mr Quashigah, however, appealed to President Akufo-Addo to do what is right and ensure that the will of Ghanaians is upheld.
"We are very much determined to make sure our democracy lives. We are calling on President Akufo-Addo to reflect critically on what the Ghanaian people expect and allow the right thing to be done," he stated.
