Nana Kwaku Bio, Chief of Essienempong in the Ejisu-Juaben District has advised Ghanaians to take interest in environmental health programmes to help reduce all forms of environmental diseases in the country.
He expressed concern about the way people behaved towards the environment and said Ghanaians should be aware that nobody could solve their environmental problems unless they, themselves got involved.
Nana Kwaku Bio, gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Essenempong on Thursday after he made his first ever tour in the town after his installation as the new chief of the town.
The purpose of the tour was to get acquainted with some social and economic amenities in the town and find ways of improving them.
He expressed worry about the shortage of water and non-availability of toilet facilities in the town, resulting in people defecating on the outskirts of the town.
He appealed to the government to come to their aid to help solve such problems and asked Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of disposing off their domestic and industrial waste.
He commended the government of embarking on the youth employment programme to reduce the unemployment rate in the country.
Nana Kwaku Bio stated that he would use his outfit to help solve the water and toilet problems in the town.
He also hinted that he would team up with his elders to re-enforce the communal spirit of the people, which had gone down for some years, due to a chieftaincy dispute in the town.
