Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah has asked members of the NPP to deeply reflect on the outcome of the 2024 general elections and prepare themselves adequately for the 2028 elections.
He said the verdict of the Ghanaian electorate indicated the growing sophistication of voters and their rising expectations from politicians.
Speaking in an interview in Kumasi, Mr. Assafuah described the outcome of the December 07, 2024, elections as shocking.
He pointed out that he had been optimistic about the NPP’s chances in the elections due to the government’s achievements in infrastructure development and poverty alleviation policies.
However, he noted that the Ghanaian electorates were of different opinion.
He said: “I was of the utmost conviction that the New Patriotic Party would be given another mandate because of the good policies of this government.
“Unfortunately, the people of Ghana thought otherwise, and they’ve passed a verdict.
“We have to accept it and reflect on what didn’t go well.”
The Old Tafo MP highlighted some of the initiatives implemented by the NPP government in his constituency, such as road construction, school infrastructure, scholarships, and the introduction of the Free Senior High School policy.
Despite these efforts, he believed the party might not have met the full expectations of voters, resulting in the unfavourable outcome.
Mr. Assafuah stressed the need for the NPP to take the feedback from the elections seriously, adapt to the evolving demands of the electorate, and work to rebuild trust.
“The Ghanaian voter is becoming more sophisticated, and it is our responsibility to meet their expectations,” he added.
