President of the Ghana Music Alliance, Nii Ofoli Yartey, says the Ghanaian music industry needs to do better to catch up with its Nigerian counterparts.
He made the assertion in an interview with Joy Entertainment’s Kofi Hayford, at the African Music Business Dialogue, held at the Silverbird Cinema at the Accra Mall.
Speaking on Friday, March 18, the experienced music business executive opined that Ghanaians have a lackadaisical attitude towards work.
This came on the back of his take when it comes to the Ghana-Nigeria music rivalry that has been trending for some years.
Nii Yartey, popularly known as Seven opined, “we have to have people to look up to…really to me I think we are lazy people, naturally we are a bit relaxed and laid back, and these [Nigerians] are people who are more aggressive than us”.
He further mentioned that Ghanaians create, whiles Nigerians “definitely make it better."
He stressed that the Ghanaian music industry needs to develop a more aggressive attitude towards work, citing Nigerians as “the closest people we can look up to."
In conclusion, Nii Ofoli Yartey charged Ghanaians to accept competition as it is only natural, saying “we have to step up, and basically run with them."
