Fredrick Lawson will undergo surgery this morning after he suffered a broken jaw in the IBF welterweight title eliminator against Kevin Bizier.
Lawson, who lost for the first time in his career, could not travel the full length as his trainer stopped the fight in round 10 on the suspicion of a broken jaw.
His manager Jacob Zwennes told Joy Sports the injury is not life threatening as initially feared but Lawson(24-1, 20 KOs) will require surgery to rectify the jaw.
“He is well. He was admitted to the hospital last night,” he told Joy Sports
“He was confirmed with the broken jaw, he is scheduled to have surgery on that.”
“It is not life threatening, he is okay, it was a broken jaw and we are dealing with that.”
“Usually one of those things in boxing is this freak injury and rather unfortunate for him he sustained this injury.”
“We will be back stronger and bigger and we know what Fredrick is made off.”
“He just has to take some time out and recover and be back to the drawing board.”
A victory for Lawson would have made him a mandatory challenger to face IBF champion Kell Brook.
