Black Stars acting skipper and Sunderland defender, John “Rock of Gibraltar” Mensah says Ghana’s match with Congo Brazzaville is more important than the historic match with the Three Lions of England since it holds the key to the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
John Mensah and his two other colleagues, Sulley Ali Muntari and Asamoah Gyan touched down Wednesday morning in Kenya. In an interview on Asempa Fm’s Sports Morning Show on Wednesday morning, Mensah said the players were more focussed on the AFCON 2012 qualifier with Congo Brazzaville match ahead of the game with England.
He further explained that even though every member of the contingent understands the task at hand; he will personally take it upon himself as the leader of the playing body and communicate the importance of the Congo Brazzaville match to each member.
He also added that Sulley Ali Muntari who was substituted in the early minutes of the first half of Sunderland’s game with Liverpool over the weekend is fit and would be able to play if selected by Coach Goran Stevanovic. On the issue of his red card in the game with Liverpool which was rescinded yesterday, Mensah said he knew he did nothing wrong and was thus thankful to God for the reversal of the decision.
The Black Stars are currently in Kenya on a five-day training tour before and will depart to Congo Brazzaville for the AFCON qualifier on Sunday, 27th March, 2011.
