Ghana-Togo set up border facilitation committe

A 26-member Inter Border Facilitation Committee (IBFC) that will ensure the free movement of persons and goods between Ghana and Togo was Saturday inaugurated at Aflao on the Ghana Togo border, 230km East of Accra. The Committee's work is part of the Abidjan-Lagos Road Transport corridor HIV/AIDS project. Ghana"s Assistant Commissioner of CEPS, Emmanuel K. Impraim is President of the Committee with Togo’s Chief of Customs, Kpegba Anani Yao, as the Vice President. Two Paramount Chiefs, Togbui Amenya Fiti of Aflao and Togbui Kodjovi de Suza Bonifaci of Kodjoviakope chaired the inauguration ceremony. The country Accountant of ALCO in Togo, Miss Irena Rose observed that delay in the movement of people across the border facilitates the spread of HIV. The President of the Committee Emmanuel K. Impraim noted that, the main objective of the two countries security agencies is to ensure that operational obstacles to the free movement of persons and goods are removed. This task demands constant contacts among all uniformed personnel and the harmonisation of their work. Mr. Impraim said the IBFC will not usurp the functions of any institution. The Paramount Chief of Aflao, Togbui Amenya Fiti commended President John Kufuor of Ghana and President Faure Gnasingbe of Togo for extending the time for closing the border from 6 pm to 10 pm.
