Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) is optimistic Ghana will fully open up its economy before the end of 2021.
Prof. Alex Dodoo believes that the interventions rolled out by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus will allow the easing of all restrictions imposed.
"Looking at the examples from the U.K and other countries, this country will be fully opened up before the end of the year, all restrictions gone, because of the interventions we are undertaking," he said.
Speaking on PM:Express on the JoyNews channel, the pharmacologist said Ghana's reliance on science and data as well as the rolling out of vaccines will help return the nation to normalcy.
Ghana on February 24, 2021, received 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines in the first COVAX delivery.
Health workers, adults 60 years and over, people with underlying health conditions, frontline executive, legislature, judiciary are among individuals to be inoculated starting Tuesday March 2, 2021.
"As a country we are fully prepared. We have followed science and data. We are now bringing out the vaccines that will help us overcome the challenges we are having" pharmacologist indicated.
Prof. Alex Dodoo wants public education intensified ahead of the vaccination to dispel the myths and misinformation, provide factual and accurate information about the exercise, and gain public input in the strategies to be employed.
He said "Our job as government and public health practitioner is to carefully explain to citizens the benefits of the interventions that we are rolling out and why we need everybody on board to make sure we are all protected. Because if everyone is not protected, no one will be protected."
According to the GSA Director-General, vaccines represent one of the most remarkable interventions in public health and the Covid-19 inoculation is the surest way to overcome the pandemic.
