The Ghana Water Company Limited is considering exporting water to the country’s neighbour, Togo in the not too distant future.
The plan could see about 70 million gallons of water being connected to Togo.
The Chief Production Manager of GWCL, Ebenezer Gabrah, told Joy News the move is both strategic and political.
He said the plan to export water to Togo follows a request by the Togolese authorities for assistance to deal with a precarious water situation facing the people of that country.
According to him, the GWCL stands to gain not only foreign exchange to improve its finances but also strategic partnership.
“It has the possibility of reducing our operational cost which will have a positive impact on the tariff that we are currently charging (locally),” he said.
Mr Gabrah explained that with the water problems in many areas not solved, the latest programme must be considered a major opportunity for the country to generate revenue to boost local distribution of water.
