The Praise Minute Movement, a Christian NGO has proposed July 5th as a National Day for the observance of a two-minute divine silence at midday.
The day, according to Mrs. Zulitu Morton, PMM Chief Executive Officer should be used as a national period for rumination and sober reflections of the goodness of God towards Ghana and its people over the last 50 years.
"Peace and stability that, we as a nation had enjoyed for over 50-years was not achieved through security intelligence and humane governmental policies but by the divine grace of Almighty God, for which we have to be grateful," she told the media in Accra.
The media launch, which brought together people from different faith, was to sensitize the public on the need to show appreciation to God for His numerous blessings and peace enjoyed as a nation.
“We, at Praise Minute perceive time as a gift from God. We seek to make good use of the time by nurturing the demonstration of gratitude, peace and praise in our community and abroad", she said.
Mrs. Morton said the current challenges created by circumstances and lifestyles had made it difficult for many people not to have enough time for God and that the two minutes of silence was an indication of an awesome sense of spiritual serenity.
She said, the two-minute of silence would be observed nationwide by all faiths and advised Ghanaians to be mindful of the date and participate.
Mr. Kwamena Bartels, Minister of Information and National Orientation said unlike other nations where war and confusion reigned, God had been so good to Ghana for the years of peace it had enjoyed.
He commended the initiators of the event and assured them of government's support to make the event a success, adding, “it is a unique moment to see all religion coming together for such an occasion and I assure you that the whole machinery of government is behind you to succeed".
