Ghana has today, May 7, taken delivery of its second batch of the Covid-19 vaccine.
A total of 350,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived at the Kotoka International Airport this morning.
Following a delay in the delivery of the vaccines, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye had assured Ghanaians that government was working assiduously to procure the next batch of the vaccines.

He explained that the delay in the procurement of additional Covid-19 vaccines is occasioned by the global scramble for the product and its scarcity.
This second batch of AstraZeneca vaccine forms part of a total of 1.3 million doses being distributed via the COVAX platform.

So far, a total of 850,000 vaccinations have been carried out in the country after the first batch of the doses were received in February this year.
Ghana was the first country outside India to receive Covid-19 vaccine doses shipped via the COVAX Facility. The arrival of the vaccines in Accra was the first batch shipped and delivered in Africa by the COVAX Facility as part of an unprecedented effort to deliver at least 2 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines by the end of 2021.
Meanwhile, as of May 2, the number of Ghana's active Covid-19 cases is 1,583 with a total of 783 deaths.
