The long awaited congress of the Central and Western Region Rugby Association (CentWest), took place at the conference room of the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape coast.
The congress ended with the election of new executives to steer the affairs of the Association in the two regions.
The new executives are James N.A Nunoo, President, Kobina Minta Nyarku, Vice President, Bismark Amponsah, General Secretary, Clement Dennis, Technical Director.
The others are Mina Mochia, Treasurer, Amewu Ernest, Organizer, and Ebenezer Elijah Eshun, Executive Member.
The Congress was attended by the administrator, National Sports Authority (Central Region), Mr. Samuel Nii Oblie, the Regonal Physical by the Education Coordinator, Mr. Albert Kofi Bonney, a Representative from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly Sports Committee, Kingsley Nana Boafo and Media Representatives from Live fm and Radio Central (GBC).
Also in attendance were delegates from Western and Central Regions including some players and School representatives. Referees and club representatives of Griffons RFC, UCC Spartans RFC and Westside RFC were all present.
In his speech, the President, Mr. James Nunoo, commended the efforts of the National President, Mr. Herbert Mensah, for promoting Rugby across the nation. He also reached out to delegates to support the sustenance of Rugby by way of approaching companies and individuals to sponsor Rugby events.
Solidarity messages were delivered by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Representative, Kingsley Nana Boafo, who stressed that so long as CentWest begins to dialogue with them, they will be ready to support the Association.
The Regional P.E Coordinator, Mr. Albeert Kofi Bonney, in his message also commended the Association for the spate of development of Rugby through the Schools. He also emphasised that in the near future he would want to see Rugby as part of Schools and Colleges sport.
A message from the Metropolitan P.E. Coordinator, Mr. Daniel Dickson Boanya, was delivered by Mr. Gerry Assan Ekumah. He also expressed support for the Association.
Delivering a message from the GRFU on behalf of the President, Mr. Steve Noi (Director and Tournament Commissioner at GRFU) said that CentWest has come to stay and the bond of unity seen in the current executive will take the Association to higher heights.
He said it was the wish of the President that CentWest will be an example of administratve success in the regional Associations and was in full support of the Executives.
He touched on the contributions of CentWest to the GRFU and was happy to announce that the Region would be hosting most of the games in the upcoming GRCC.
In his report, the general Secretary of CentWest stated that the Region had a total of 360 students actively involved in the GIR Program. He briefed delegates on the preparations of CentWest towards the GRCC and the GRUPA Tour events. He also encouraged members to get involved in training programs and formation of senior teams.
He eloborated and demonstrated to delegates the management software scrumIT that the GRFU has adopted to facilitate its work.
The Vice President moved for the adoption of the CentWest Constitution as a working document to guide the running of the Association.
The move was widely accepted by Congress and confirmed by Mr. Samuel Nii Oblie, the NSA Regional administrator who later swore the executives into office.
Congress ended in a resolution to uphold the constitution and to support the executives to succeed.
