Ghana came from behind to stage a 2-1 comeback win over Central African Republic 2-1 in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Stadium, which guaranteed their place at next year's AFCON, the 12th time since 2000.
The Black Stars have managed to be in two finals - 2010 & 2015, and featured in four semi-finals. The last two campaign for Ghana has been an embarrassing journey - eliminated in round 16 and group stages respectively.
It’s over forty years of trophy drought for the nation. Could this be Ghana’s time in Ivory Coast?
A million question to ask ourselves. The team is always under incessant pressure to win any major competition and the continental event in January will be no different.
Ghana booked her ticket, topping Group E with 12 points, followed by Angola with 10 points who drew with Madagascar.
Hosts Ivory Coast will host 24 countries where Ghana is looking forward to win her fifth title since 1982 and Chris Hughton's side must find a way past top African nations like Senegal, Ghana, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco for the trophy.
It may not be easy to end the long-standing drought but definitely good preparation with vibrant support from Ghanaians could get the team over the line.
The adequate preps begins with the international friendly over Liberia on September 12 to test the strength of the squad before later facing Mexico and USA on October 14 and 17 respectively.
The AFCON 2023 is scheduled to start on January 13, 2024 and end on February 11, 2024 in four cities.
