Ghana Premier League wrap: Tawiah sees red

Bechem United got their first win in their first Premier League season, beating Medeama 1-0 on Sunday. Here’s the wrap of the weekend action from SuperSport.com. The club’s CEO Kingsley Owusu-Achau hailed his team’s return to their home grounds. “When we said we wanted to come, people thought we were just talking. Now we have been vindicated and showed we can start winning again.” At the Golden City Park, it finished 0-0 when Berekum Arsenals and Aduana Stars honoured their derby. Anthony Tawiah of Aduana was red-carded in the second half. Tawiah was booked in the 18th and 37th minutes. In Kpando, Godfred Asante and Benjamin Fadi scored to help Heart of Lions beat Liberty Professionals. Lions are now seventh in the standings and a point ahead of Liberty. In Obuasi, Ivorian striker Didier Kore got two goals at the Len Clay Stadium to give AshGold a 2-1 win against Tema Youth. Kore’s goal after 57 minutes was cancelled by Tema Youth’s Nicholas Odjer before the Ivorian striker got the winner later. Dwarfs could have gone top of the league but could only draw Wassaman in Sekondi. The home side needed to equalize to draw 1-1 after Seidu Bancey put Dwarfs ahead. Richard Mensah got the leveler. Abdul Bashiru missed from the penalty spot in a great chance to give Wassaman a league win in this troubled season. Chelsea went second on the league after beating Edubiase 1-0 and in the big game, Kotoko held Hearts 0-0 in Accra. All the scores.
