The government of Ghana has eased restrictions on football being played behind closed doors. Henceforth, matches will be played with fans up to 25% of the stadium's capacity according to a statement released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday.

Before the commencement of this season's Ghana Premier League season, President Nana Akuffo-Addo stated that stadia will be limited to just 25% of capacity to ensure social distancing.

Unfortunately, a spike in Covid-19 cases saw the president overturn his decision as matches were announced to be played behind closed doors.

As a result, the seven rounds of the league that have been completed thus far have all been played behind closed doors.

However, the government believes the country is making steady progress in handling the virus and has therefore announced that a limited number of fans can return to the stadium (25% capacity).

This means fans can return to stadia on matchday 8 which commences on January 8 when Legon Cities welcome WAFA to the Accra Sports stadium.
