The South Dayi Member of Parliament has disproved the claim by President-elect, Akufo-Addo that his flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme has made Ghana a net exporter of foodstuffs.
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor comment comes on the back of Akufo-Addo’s final Nation Address on Tuesday in which he stated that his flagship program of Planting for Food and Jobs has made Ghana a net exporter of foodstuff.
He revealed that truckloads of tomatoes are imported into the country on a daily basis from Burkina Faso, proving that the country is not a net exporter of foodstuffs as the President claimed.
"The man [Akufo-Addo] is saying because of his Planting for Food and Jobs, we are rather a net exporter of tomatoes and other foodstuffs...but the reverse is the situation; we still import tomatoes".
He continued: "The same man [Akufo-Addo] says that one of his flagship programs Planting for Food and Jobs Policy was excellently executed. He would know if he had been properly appraised, he will know that every day over 50 trucks cross the border at Paga and Hamle and enter the Republic of Ghana with Tomatoes from Burkina Faso”.
Meanwhile, Nana Addo stated that the PFJ policy has catalyzed Ghana’s agricultural transformation and has set the country on the right path of industrialization.
"We have seen the dramatic turnaround of our agricultural fortunes, due to the progressive policies that have improved the living standards of farmers in the country," the President stated.
However, the MP for South Dayi accused the President of not being forthcoming with the state of Ghana’s debt portfolio during his tenure of office.
“The man [Akufo-Addo] refuses to speak of our public debt portfolio, it is almost 300 billion from a loan of 120 billion within four years”.
