Final tests on transmission lines to transport electricity from Nigeria through Benin to Ghana were being tested on Friday.
Nigeria is to supply Ghana 100 megawatts of electricity as part of a temporary arrangement to augment supply.
The Nigerian deal and another 100 megawatts expected from Ivory Coast would augment electricity supply to the country to ensure regular power supply during the highlights of Ghana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on March 6.
Friday’s test came exactly a fortnight after President Kufuor outlined a series of interventions to address the country’s energy crisis.
Altogether some 200 megawatts of electricity was expected to augment supply of electricity before Independence Day.
