The eve of Joy FM's 2024 Ghana Month launch evoked nostalgia as your Super Station staged a re-enactment of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s 1957 Independence Declaration.
With the help of Abubakar Latif's Globe Productions, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum came alive with a stage act depicting the the declaration and more.
The event which was held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, comprised music, dance, and poetry.
The programme opened with a choral performance of a Ghana Month theme song and Uncle Ato’s ‘Oman Beye Yie’, by a University of Ghana choir directed by Uncle Juju.
Weaving a beautiful Ghana story, came a narrator Dede (Gjanmaki Akornor-Tetteh) who steered the event as the MC. This ‘old lady’, would sing, dance and regale the audience with her capitulating story telling style.
There were performances by two of Ghana’s illustrious sons in the world of poetry and spoken word: Nana Asaase and Chief Moomen. Their performances spoke to the essence of Ghana's independence, the pride of being a Ghanaian and the responsibility of upholding Ghana’s values and virtues.
The Great Africa Heritage Dance Ensemble performed various traditional music and dance forms: kete, fontomfrom, kpalongo, bamaya, among others.
The programme climaxed with the reenactment of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s iconic independence speech. This was expertly played by a cast from Globe Productions.
Edem Knight-Tay, the Programmes Manager of Joy FM, highlighted how the station started the Ghana Month initiative about ten years ago on Drive Time. The result of the move is the replication of the concept across almost every media platform in Ghana.
She also announced that Joy FM and Joy Prime had put together exciting and educative content for this year’s Ghana Month celebrations.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyemang congratulated Joy FM for the initiative and urged the media to continue to help preserve Ghana’s heritage and values.
“It is our shared responsibility to preserve what we have as a country. So throughout the journey that we are going to embark on, the various tourist sites and attractions, please let’s take care of nature, let’s take care of what we have and let’s make sure that what God has given us, we are able to preserve it,” he said.
Also present at the event were Drive Time host of Joy FM, Lexis Bill; the Chief of Adumasa and host of ‘That’s My Opinion’ Nana Ansah Kwaw; Lead Producer of Joy FM, Philip Nai; Joy FM producers Anita Teye, Mirabel Johnson and other on-air personalities including Kofi Hayford and Kwame Dadzie.
