Members of the Ghana Journalists Association on Wednesday gathered at the Accra International Press Centre to commemorate this year’s World Press Freedom Day.
The programme was attended by journalists of all levels, members of the diplomatic community in Ghana and some personalities from the business community.
This year marks the 30th year of the UN International Press Freedom Day.
It was under the theme “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of expression as a driver for all other human rights”, with a local theme variant of “Freedom of Expression: A Driver for all Human Rights for Ghana’s Development.”
GJA President Albert Dwumfuor, former GJA President, Mrs Gifty Afenyi Dadzie, UNESCO Representative in Ghana Mr Abdourahamane Diallo, and UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana Mr Charles Abani, while the keynote address was delivered by Justice Sir Dennis Domenic Adjei.
Alongside the celebration was a display of journalism and governance books by members of the association and development partners.
After the inspection of the books, South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Madam Grace Jeanet Mason donated books on the late Nelson Mandela and the current South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa to the GJA President.
Ghanaian renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni also made a donation of books to the GJA.
