The Ghana Health Service has asked all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region to as a matter of protocol engage communities they intend setting isolation centres in.

The advice from the Ghana health service follows waves of protest in over 10 communities where District Assemblies have planned to set up isolation centres.

At a press briefing, the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Akosua Owusu Sarpong tasked the MMDCEs to assure the community folk that such an exercise does not endanger their lives but rather protect them against the Covid-19.

She noted that the continuous protests of citizens are conter-productive to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I will further plead with the MMDCEs to do more engagement of their various communities and their leadership and tell them that we want their safety.

“Because whatever intervention we are putting here as a region is for the safety of everyone.

"And explain the issue to them so that they can support the issues of Covid-19,” she stated.

Dr Owusu Sarpong revealed that the enhance surveillance contact tracing in the region has identified over 550 individuals who came into the country before the closure of the Ghanaian boarders.

She added that currently, the region has quarantined 273 people with 84 of them being fishermen who returned from their sojourn from neighboring countries days ago.

The Central Region Minister, Kwamena Duncan, on his part tasked the MMDCEs to ensure that the President’s directive of free water is strictly adhered to.

He further appealed to the media to help the efforts of government to fight the pandemic nationally.
