Dr Elias Sorie has been appointed Director General of the Ghana Health Service.
He replaces the Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa whose four year tenure ended sometime in June last year. Joy News says although Dr Akosa sought an extension of his four year contract, it was not granted.
Dr Sorie was until his appointment the Northern Regional Director of Health Services.
Dr Sorie was chosen out of three short-listed candidates for the job.
He had worked with the Ministry of Health since 1984, from where he joined the Ghana Health Service. Between 1993 and 2001 he served as the Central Regional Director of Health Services until his transfer to the Northern Region.
