The Ghana Food Movement (GFM) is appealing to individuals, organizations and partners to join the movement to raise funds for The Kitchen project.
"Ghana Food Movement is proud to announce the construction of The Kitchen!; a pioneering food education hub set to revolutionise Ghana's culinary landscape, and designed to empower young Ghanaians with practical skills, knowledge and networking opportunities.
The Kitchen aims to address pressing challenges in Ghana's food system while fostering economic growth and sustainability.
Ghana Food Movement Background:
The Ghana Food Movement is a grassroots network of passionate individuals (young chefs, farmers, food producers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and food enthusiasts) committed to promoting Ghanaian gastronomy and sustainability.
Recognising the urgent need to transform Ghana's food industry, the Ghana Food Movement has partnered with local and global organisations to drive positive change.
Through a series of initiatives and events, the Ghana Food Movement has championed the potential of Ghanaian cuisine while advocating for a fair and resilient food ecosystem.
About The Kitchen:
Located in the buzzing Osu suburb of Accra, The Kitchen is promised to be the first all-round food education hub in West Africa.
Spanning 350 square meters, this state-of-the-art facility features a fully equipped training kitchen, food innovation lab, dining and workspace, and an urban demonstration farm.
Designed to reflect the entire food value chain, from farm to table, The Kitchen offers a comprehensive curriculum covering gastronomy, product development, hospitality, farming, and more to youth who will be educated here.
Key Objectives:
- Train and equip 1,000 young Ghanaians annually with practical skills and knowledge for Free!.
- Create employment opportunities for youth in the food and agriculture sector.
- Stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship in Ghana's food industry.
- Promote the value of Ghanaian cuisine and local food systems.
Crowdfunding Campaign:
To fund the final stages of construction and furnishing, the hub with all the necessary equipment and training materials, Ghana Food Movement has launched a crowdfunding campaign seeking to raise GH₵1,408,500 (€100,000).
"Donations will help us make the Hub a reality to unlock the full potential of Ghana's culinary landscape" it said in a statement.
It said "Supporters can contribute to becoming founding members of The Kitchen and gain access to exclusive perks. This campaign starts from 9th May 2024 to 9th June 2024."
"Every donation matters: Together, we can build a resilient and self-sustainable Ghanaian food industry that celebrates local talent and culture."
