In a bid to bring all stakeholders together, the leadership of Ghana Athletics has held a general interaction with all interest groups within the nation's track and field sport.
The meeting, which took place on Saturday, November 11 via zoom, brought together top personalities in Ghana's track and field space with some of the legends like Leo Myles Mills, Eric Nkansah, Christian Nsiah, John Myles Mills, Prof. Andrews Owusu, and former President Afelibek Ababu all participating.
Led by President Bawa Fuseini, the new executive briefed the meeting on the purpose of the meeting and also to seek input for the way forward for the sport.
Also, another rationale for the family meeting is to foster open communication among members and create an open atmosphere where members will be free to contribute their ideas for improving the sport in Ghana.
During the well-participated meeting, which lasted for over two hours, participants lauded the new GA leadership for the foresight to strengthen the relationships among the stakeholders, particularly, with the first meeting. Some members also called for the association to intensify preparation for the March 2024 13th African Games which will be staged in Accra.
Dr. Marc Kwame Dzradosi, a medical practitioner who serves on the medical subcommittee for the 13th African Games, highlighted the need to revitalize athletics at all regional levels to fester the grounds for unearthing young talents to build strong national teams.
Meanwhile, Bawa Fuseini shared a vital update about plans to hold an athletics competition at the refurbished Koforidua Multi-purpose Stadium. He further revealed that the association has earmarked South Africa, Kumasi, and Cape Coast as camping bases for athletes and coaches ahead of the 13th African Games.
The Vice President Charles Osei Asibey disclosed the many strategic plans by the association to train new officiating officials, unearth and develop athletes, create competitions and to make athletics a super attractive brand.
The leadership of the association also took some time to address some concerns about visa problems encountered by athletes when they are attending competitions to represent Ghana.
In his concluding remarks, Bawa Fuseini pledged the new leadership's commitment to develop and grow the sport and promised to implement the numerous good suggestions and ideas shared by members who participated in the meeting.
