Ghana amateur boxers hope to achieve laurels

Two amateur boxers will compete for places in the quarter final stage of the boxing competition later today. Captain Manyo Plange who drew a bye in the first round comes up against India’s Mayenbam Surandoy while super lightweight Frederick Lawson faces a Canadian opponent. Light flyweight, Duke Micah and light heavyweight Ahmed Saraku also need wins today to advance past the first round. Yesterday, lightweight Ben Lamptey made it past the preliminary stage after defeating Kaisa Ioane of Samoa. In athletics Aziz Zakari and Laryea Akrong carry Ghana’s medal hopes in the 100 metre event after sailing through the heats yesterday.
