Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea settled for a 0-0 draw at the Essipong Sports Stadium on Thursday evening in the first game of the 4-day G6 tournament.
The first half of the game was an end to end affair with, but both sides failed produce plenty of goal scoring opportunities in the game.
Sadick Adams, who has joined Berekum Chelsea, after returning from abroad, was the player to give Robert Dabuo the test of the half, but the former WA All Stars goalie saved the situation for the Miners.
Ashgold started the second half with a much revived spirit, dictating the pace of the game and created a lot of chances. Fuseini Nuhu made several attempts to beat Tijani Ahmed, but to no avail.
Bashiru Hayford threw two attackers into the game: Emmanuel Osei and Safiu Mununi and that added a lot bite upfront for the league champions, but, Mumuni either shot off target or had his efforts curbed by the Berekum Chelsea goalie.
The best chance of the evening fell the way of Emmanuel Osei, after a defence splitting pass came from Ato Bissah, but the substitute shot wide by missing the goal post by inches to give Chelsea a big sigh of relieve in the 85th minute.
Berekum Chelsea, following the inability of Osei to snatch the late winner for Ashgold took control of the game and almost secured all the three points through a powerful header from Collins Ameyaw to call Dabuo to duty, however, the shot-stopper produced a world class save to earn a point for his side in the 91st minute.
Despite much publicity by GHALCA, the organisers of the competition to whip up enthusiasm, attendance was poor.
