The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it will cooperate with a three-man committee set up by government to review the performance of Ghana's Black Stars at the ongoing World Cup finals in Brazil.
The government Thursday, announced that Appeals Court Judge, Justice Senyo Dzamefe would chair the committee and its work would be to inquire into matters relating to the management of the Black Stars and events in their camp during the tournament.
Other members of the three-man committee are Lawyer and Sports Administrator, Moses Foh Amoaning and Sports Enthusiast, Kofi Anokye Owusu Darko.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority in Parliament had criticized the setting up of any government committee, stating that it violated FIFA’s rules.
But speaking to Joy News, Spokesperson for the GFA, Ibrahim Sannie Daara said they would work with the government to address any issues which may violate the rules of FIFA.
He said, “We must have good relations with the government and it is what the Ghana Football Association is keen on doing. We are not keen on going into any confrontation with the Ghana government; we are actually keen on working and collaborating with the government ensuring that we get things right.”
The NPP Minority in Parliament had also demanded the setting up of a bi-partisan committee to be led by Parliament.
Newly appointed Sports Minister, Mahama Ayariga says government chose to settle for a three-man committee because it did not want to associate its work with any form of politics.
“I don’t believe that it is good to introduce partisan politics into a matter like this. Usually, when the Black Stars are playing, the nation rallies behind the team irrespective of individual political affiliation so it is not the best thing that when it comes to trying to find out if there are lapses in our preparation and our participation and how we can address these to improve our future chances that exercise should be politicised and made partisan in any way,” he said.
