The Ghana Education Service (GES) is reviewing its policy on the use of electronic gadgets in schools, Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has said.
Currently, GES rules bar students from using mobile phones in schools.
But speaking on ‘Beyond The Lockdown’ on JoyNews Sunday, Dr. Adutwum said the GES is reviewing its policies.
Policies under consideration, he said, include “bring your own device” which are laptops, smart phones and other devices.
“I think we have to face the reality that the world has shifted and certain tools have become part of learning so GES is fully aware of that and they are looking at their policies,” the deputy Minister said.
He, however, said a final decision has not been taken on the issue.
"You have to wait to see the policy that will come," he said.
The use of mobile phones and other tech devices have become topical, following closure of schools and other restrictions put in place to contain the Covid-19.
Schools are now relying on online platforms to get tutoring from their instructors, justifying the device use by students.
Dr. Adutwum says the regulators are minded of these and will make an informed decision on the matter.
