The Ghana Education Service (GES) says Thursday, March 7 is a holiday for all school children across the country.
The decision follows the Independence Day Parade held on Wednesday, March 6.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of the Public Relations Unit at GES, the Service explained that the directive is to provide students with an opportunity to rest after their diligent preparations.
However, the GES clarified that regular school activities will resume on Friday, March 8, for all schoolchildren.
“It is announced for the information of all schools and the general public that Thursday, 7th March has been declared a holiday for all school children in Ghana. School resumes fully on Friday 8, March 2024. All parents and guardians are therefore to take note," an excerpt of the statement said.
About Ghana's 67th Independence Day Celebration
Ghana marked its 67th Independence Day on Wednesday with a grand national parade held in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The ceremony had in attendance President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Speaker of Parliament, and various diplomats, including Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, who served as the guest speaker.
Additionally, parades were organized at local levels by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the country.
The national celebration in Koforidua was particularly vibrant, featuring participants from nine public and private basic schools, as well as some prominent Senior High Schools within the Municipality.
The event, themed "Our Democracy, Our Pride," took place at the newly inaugurated Koforidua Youth Resource Center, a facility capable of accommodating 5,000 attendees.
