George Groves will return to action against Italy's Andrea Di Luisa in London on January 30.
Groves (21-3-KO16) failed in a third bid to become world champion when he was outpointed by WBC super-middleweight champion Badou Jack in Las Vegas in September.
The Hammersmith fighter then parted company with trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick and took some time away from the sport but his promoters, the Sauerland brothers, confirmed he will box Di Luisa (18-3-KO14) at Hackney's Copperbox Arena.
Di Luisa stopped Gabor Zsalek in the second round of his most recent fight but before that was halted in four by former world champion Lucian Bute, who recently lost his bid to regain the IBF crown from Groves' old foe James DeGale.
The 33-year-old Di Luisa has fought for the European title on two occasions - losing via final-round stoppage to Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye in November 2011 and then to former Groves victim Christopher Rebrasse, who stopped him in seven a year later.
Groves famously suffered back-to-back world title defeats to Carl Froch in 2013 and 2014.
