The Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry says it will house some 15,000 head porters, popularly known as kayaye in Accra and Kumasi as these towns continue to observe a partial lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Sector Minister, Cynthia Morrison said these females and a handful of males will be fed and catered for during their stay at an undisclosed location.
“Some of them have rented apartments but some also live on the streets. For those without a place of abode, we currently have 15,000 that we are going to cater for.
“There is going to be food, water and we have corporate bodies cooking for them,” the Minister said as she addressed the press during the Ministry of Information’s press conference to provide updates on enhanced measures being taken by government to address the coronavirus pandemic,” she added.
