GE team arrives to inspect projects

A five-member team from General Electric Company of America (GE) arrived in Accra on Monday night for a week's working visit during which it would inspect the company's projects and identify areas where it could do more. Speaking to journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, Mr Lloyd Trotter, Vice Chairman of GE, leader of the team, noted that Ghana needed to change at every stage of her development, and expressed the company's desire to plan its projects to suit the emerging needs. "We hope to find new opportunities for development and also improve upon our existing interests," he said. Dr George Amofah, Deputy Director General of the Ghana Health Services (GHS), who met the team on arrival, said since 2004, the GHS had collaborated with GE in the provision of health care equipment for hospitals. Ghana has benefited from a 20 million-dollar humanitarian programme by GE aimed at supporting health care delivery systems in some African hospitals and clinics. Out of this package, the country has received 10 million dollars worth of medical equipment and infrastructure. Dr Amofah said GHS was willing to collaborate with GE in the health sector, as good health care delivery was crucial to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Also at the airport to meet the GE team was Mr Fred Asamany, Managing Director of GECAD Ghana Ltd, local representatives of GE. Source: GNA
