Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), Ray Sowah, disclosed that the bank will conduct a skills audit to determine the number of employees to maintain or layoff as part of its restructuring.
He said it is early days yet to make a decision on the fate of workers of the two banks.
There have been reports that more than half of the workers of UT Bank and Capital Bank could go home possibly after six months.
Mr. Sowah, said a decision can only be made after Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) completes its assessment of the situation.
He however welcomed staff of the defunct banks to the new GCB family.
Mr. Sowah said upon the revocation of the licenses of the two banks, staff of these two institutions ceased to be employees of the else while banks.
He was speaking to Journalists in Accra to give an update on the acquisition and takeover of the two banks by GCB.
GCB bank has assumed the customer deposits and selected assets of UT bank and Capital bank.
This follows the decision by the Bank of Ghana to revoke the operating licenses of these two banks.
According to Ray Sowah, "some staff of the company will be affected due to the restructuring plan to be undertaken with the newly expanded GCB Bank."
He also assured customers and shareholders on the fate of their deposits and what the new GCB holds for them.
GCB has therefore described the development as an opportunity to expand and improve on its branch network.
