Director General of the Ghana Broad Casting Corporation William Ampem Darko risks being sanctioned by Parliament if found guilty of denigrating the integrity of the house.
Mr. Ampem Darko was alleged to have engaged in hot verbal exchanges with Hon. KT Hammond, MP for Adansi Asokwa after the latter had pushed for his dismissal on the floor of Parliament.
According to KT Hammond, the Director General had traded the independence of GBC by succumbing to the whims of government and terminating live programmes indiscriminately.
But this did not go down well with the Director General who confronted the MP at Parliament’s cafeteria on Tuesday.
Not amused with the exchanges Hon Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua, raised the issue on the floor of the House on Thursday, accusing Mr. Ampem Darko of tarnishing the reputation of Parliament.
The Privileges Committee of Parliament at the behest of the speaker is to conduct investigations into the row.
Chairman of the committee Doe Adjaho told Joy FM’s Parliamentary Correspondent Araba Koomsoon, that the Director General will be cautioned or made to apologise if found culpable of the allegations levelled against him.
He hinted the committee will soon convene a meeting to begin investigations into the matter.
