The Minority is urging the Health Minister to provide comprehensive details of the contract with a private firm for the supply of dialysis machines and accessories that has left the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in debt.
Under the terms of the contract, the South African company, Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), provides the dialysis machines at no cost, but the teaching hospital is obligated to purchase all the accessories solely from FMC.
The minority claims that FMC is pricing the accessories higher than the prevailing market rates.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu told Parliament on Thursday that the contract is being reviewed.
"The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in consultation with the Minister of Health has initiated discussion with (FMC) for more flexible payment options and the structures suppliers of consumables to avoid excessive delays and to ensure delivery of understanding 45 dialysis machine and auxiliary equipment," he said.
But speaking of JoyNews, a minority member on Parliament’s Health Committee and former Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has demanded to see the contract before any review is undertaken.
“Even though we’ve not seen the contract, we are setting, we are told is part of the contract is that the company, that can give these consumables, they are given us machines that they are the only people who can give the consumables in the open market.
He assured that “those of us in the monitory focus will insist that let's see the contract before we even talk about the review of the fees and charges.”
