Comedian Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, popularly known as Funny Face, has been sued by an ex-lover based in the US, to the tune of $53,105.53.
According to the writ filed at the Accra High Court, the plaintiff, Mary Ama Boansi, allegedly took care of the defendant’s financial needs but the actor failed to pay back.
She stated that the ‘Cow and Chicken’ actor met her in 2016, they became friends and he subsequently proposed to her.
“Plaintiff avers that as their love affair grew stronger, the Defendant proposed to marry her; a proposal she gladly accepted. Plaintiff avers that due to the Defendant’s proposal and promise to marry her, she took more than usual interest in the affairs of the Defendant.”
The writ further stated that “the Defendant was always requesting for financial assistance from her and she went beyond what is expected of an unmarried acquaintance to meet the unusual financial needs of the Defendant”.
Some of the financial needs of the defendant, as outlined by the plaintiff, included $10,805.51 for the production of his hit series ‘Cow and Chicken’, $5000 for Funny Face’s health, $4000 for the purchase of a vehicle engine and repair of his Range Rover, $3000 for a phone, gift items on her return to Ghana and among others.
The writ revealed that some of these monies Funny Face’s ex-lover supported him with were proceeds from her student loan.
All efforts, according to Mary Ama Boansi, to retrieve her money, after the relationship hit the rocks were futile.
Hence, the plaintiff is seeking damages to the tune of $53,105.53 equivalent to GHC296,063.33.
