Frimpong jabs Sepp Blatter over racism comments

Ghana and Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong says he will give Sepp Blatter a hard tackle after Fifa president stunned football with his views on racism. Blatter outraged players of all nationalities by suggesting anyone who suffers racist abuse on the pitch should simply shake hands with the offender after the match and get on with life. His comments came at a particularly sensitive time in world football few months after Black Stars midfielder Andre Dede Ayew was racially abused in Russia while playing for French side Marseille. The English FA and police are investigating claims that England and Chelsea skipper John Terry racially abused QPR’s Anton Ferdinand. And last night the FA charged Liverpool striker Luis Suarez over alleged racist comments to Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. Blatter made his outrageous statement during an interview with American TV news company CNN and then repeated them in a follow-up interview with Al Jazeera TV. Asked if football still suffered with a race problem, Blatter told CNN: “I would deny it. There is no racism. “Maybe one of the players has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one, but the one who is affected by that should say that ‘this is a game’. “We are in a game and, at the end of the game, we shake hands. “This can happen because we have worked so hard against racism and discrimination. “On the field of play sometimes you say something that is not very correct but then at the end of the game, the game is over and you have the next game where you can behave better. “I think the whole world is aware of the efforts we are making against racism and discrimination.” Frimpong, a passionate campaigner against racism in football, led a chorus condemnation of Blatter’s comments. He tweeted: “If Blatter Ever Come to Arsenal am Gna Frimpong Him.” Several Ghanaian players have suffered racist abused in the past including legends Abedi Pele, Anthony Yeboah and Baffour Gyan and most recently Andre Ayew. Samuel Eto’o was constantly hounded by racists in Spain and Italy.
