Free AIDS testing, counselling for journalists

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) will on Tuesday organise Voluntary Testing and Counselling (VCT) on HIV for media personnel as part of activities to usher in this year's World AIDS Day, which falls on December 1. A statement signed by Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary, in Accra on Friday said the VCT would take place at the Ghana International Press Centre between 0930 and 1500. It said those who would undergo the VCT would know their HIV status. The statement said the exercise, which would be conducted by officials of the National AIDS Control Programme and the Ghana AIDS Commission, was under the GJA project "Using the Media to Create Greater Awareness on HIV/AIDS." HIV/AIDS was first reported in Ghana in 1986 and the authorities have been working hard with donor support to contain the pandemic. GNA
