English Championship side Coventry City have announced the exit of George Boateng following the appointment of Frank Lampard as their new head coach.

Boateng, who was appointed as the first-team assistant coach in July 2024, was relieved of his duties after the dismissal of head coach Mark Robins.

This follows a string of poor results that have left the club in 17th position, just two points above the relegation zone in the Championship.

A club statement read:
“Coventry City can confirm that First-Team Coach George Boateng has today left the Club.

“We would all like to thank George for his contribution to the Sky Blues since his return to the Club in the Summer.”

The statement further added:

“George was a popular figure with the Sky Blues, adding to his 57-game and 7-goal playing spell at the Club during the 90s.

“We all wish George the best of luck for the future.”

George Boateng, who also served as an assistant coach for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will now explore other opportunities in football.

Meanwhile, the appointment of Frank Lampard could be a significant boost for Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The Ghanaian has scored only three goals in 19 appearances since joining the club from West Brom.
